What Frontify is
This is the question worth answering first, because it's the one search behavior tells us people actually have: is Frontify a DAM, or something else wearing a DAM's clothes? According to Frontify's own product pages, the platform combines digital asset management with brand guidelines, design system tools and customizable brand portals in a single environment, positioned around "brand intelligence" rather than pure archival storage (Frontify product overview).
In practice that means Frontify's DAM module exists to serve brand governance, not the other way around. Assets, usage guidelines, approved templates and approval workflows sit in the same system, so a marketer looking for a logo also sees the rules for using it. That's the pitch, and it's a real, useful difference from a generic file library — but it also means teams whose priority is deep metadata control, huge archival libraries, or lossless long-term storage of raw photography are being sold a governance layer they may not need. If your job is "keep every asset's rights and IPTC data intact for a 500,000-file archive," Frontify is not the tool built for that job first; if your job is "make sure nobody on three continents uses the wrong logo file," it is.
Key features
Brand guidelines and style guides. Frontify's core differentiator: living, web-based brand guideline pages that combine logo rules, color palettes, typography and voice guidance with the actual asset files, so the documentation and the assets it governs never drift apart (Frontify brand asset management).
Design system tools. Component libraries, design tokens and documentation aimed at design and product teams working alongside marketing, positioning Frontify as a bridge between brand and product design workflows rather than a marketing-only tool.
Brand portals. Customizable, permissioned portals for distributing approved assets and guidelines to agencies, partners and distributed teams — the external-facing layer that overlaps most directly with what tools like Canto and Brandfolder do.
DAM module. Per Frontify's own DAM features guide, the library supports AI-assisted tagging and metadata generation on upload, duplicate flagging, bulk operations, and "smart libraries" that keep assets structured by team, market or use case (Frontify DAM features guide). Vendor documentation also describes native integrations with Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma and Webflow, and an MCP-based AI governance layer added in 2026 for on-brand content generation.
Collaboration and approvals. Role-based permissions, approval workflows tied to templates and assets, and analytics on how brand assets are used across the organization — features aimed squarely at governance rather than at bulk digitization or archival workflows.
None of this is PhotoLib-tested. We have not run Frontify through our search-latency, metadata round-trip or onboarding benchmarks the way we have with Canto or Daminion. Feature claims above are Frontify's own descriptions of its product, not independent measurements.
Pricing
Frontify does not publish a rate card. Its own pricing page states that the company "engages directly with customers to assess their specific needs and propose a tailored package," and prices on a monthly active users (MAU) basis rather than per provisioned seat, using six-month usage averages to smooth fluctuations (Frontify pricing page).
Third-party pricing trackers that aggregate buyer-reported figures — not confirmed by Frontify — describe a roughly three-tier shape: small-team entry packages around $1,200–$1,800 per year for a handful of users with limited DAM functionality; mid-size deployments commonly quoted at $8,000–$15,000 per year for 10–25 users with fuller DAM and template features; and Enterprise contracts starting around $25,000 and scaling well past that with user count, storage and module selection (PricingNow buyer-reported Frontify costs, Vendr Frontify marketplace listing). Treat these as directional, not quotable — get your own quote for real numbers.
Price tiers: $ budget · $$ mid-range · $$$ premium, quote-based. Frontify's own pricing page carries no published figures, so the tier and ranges above come from verified customer reports and third-party pricing aggregators, not a vendor rate card. Checked July 2026.
Reviewers on G2 flag the MAU model itself as a point of friction: because cost depends on how many people actually log in in a given period rather than a fixed seat count, some verified users describe the final bill as harder to forecast than a flat per-seat plan, particularly for organizations with large, sporadic external contributor lists (Frontify reviews on G2).

Who is Frontify for?
✓ Consider Frontify if you…
- Need brand guidelines, logo usage rules and approved templates enforced alongside your asset library, not stored separately
- Distribute assets to agencies, partners or distributed regional teams who need a governed self-serve portal
- Have design-system needs that span brand and product teams, not just marketing
- Have enterprise budget and don't mind a demo-led, quote-based sales process
✗ Look elsewhere if you…

- Prioritize asset performance analytics over brand governance — see Brandfolder
- Need approval-workflow depth specifically, without paying for the full brand-platform layer — see best DAM software with approval workflows
- Want budget-first pricing with a transparent rate card
How Frontify compares
Frontify sits in a specific slice of the market: it's most directly comparable to tools built around external-facing distribution and governance, which is why we cover it in best brand portal & asset-sharing software rather than in a general archival-DAM roundup. Within that group, the closest hands-on-tested alternative on this site is Canto, which we tested directly for onboarding speed, AI tagging and metadata round-trip fidelity. Canto leans harder into fast adoption and polished client-facing portals with less emphasis on formal brand governance and design-system tooling; Frontify leans the other way, trading some setup simplicity for deeper guideline enforcement and design-system features that Canto doesn't attempt. If approval chains specifically — not brand guideline pages — are the deciding feature, our approval-workflow roundup tests that dimension directly across several tools we did put hands on.
FAQ
Is Frontify a DAM or a brand management platform?
Both, but the emphasis matters: Frontify is built first as a brand management platform — guidelines, design systems and brand portals — with a digital asset management module layered underneath so assets, rules and templates live in one place. If you mainly need archival storage and metadata search for a large photo library, a dedicated DAM will usually go deeper on those specifics. If you need to govern how a brand is used across teams and partners, Frontify's combined approach is the point.
How much does Frontify cost?
Frontify does not publish a public rate card; pricing is quoted per account based on monthly active users (MAU) rather than provisioned seats. Third-party pricing trackers and buyer reports place small-team entry packages roughly in the low thousands of dollars per year, mid-size Growth-tier deployments in the five-figure range, and Enterprise contracts at $25,000 or more annually, scaling with users, storage and modules. These are third-party estimates, not confirmed vendor figures — get a quote for your exact numbers.
Does Frontify offer a free trial?
Frontify's pricing page does not advertise a self-serve free trial; the standard path is booking a demo with sales, who scope a package to your team size and module needs.
What do verified users say are Frontify's biggest weaknesses?
Recurring themes in verified G2 and Capterra reviews are setup and admin-side complexity, a search experience that some reviewers say weakens as libraries grow, a template editor seen as less flexible than dedicated design tools, and pricing that reviewers describe as expensive and hard to predict under the MAU model.
Frontify or Canto — which should I pick?
Choose Frontify if brand governance — guidelines, logo usage rules, approved templates and partner-facing brand portals — is the primary job. Choose Canto, which we hands-on tested, if the primary job is a marketing team getting a cloud DAM adopted fast with minimal setup friction. Teams with both needs often end up evaluating both before renewal.
